About Me

This is me cosplaying Jay Midori from my debut novel, Eyes of Time

I’m Riley, a fantasy author and avid reader from England.

I love everything to do with words, art, and nature. I am in love with queer books and fantasy, and have an extensive book collection full of books by fantastic authors. I like sci-fi too, but fantasy will always have my heart over anything else. If you were to ask me my favourite book, I’d have a hard time picking one single favourite. A non-exhaustive list includes, Xiran Jay Zhao’s Iron Widow, Aiden Thomas’ The Sunbearer Trials, Tasha Suri’s Burning Kingdoms trilogy, and Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series.

One of my favourite things to do is cook. I’m always trying new recipes from all around the world. Food is such a wonderful way to connect with others. If you read any of The Poison Princess series, you’ll see just how much I adore food with all the times the characters bond over food cooked by Kai and Emin.

When I write, I often combine science-fiction and horror elements into my fantasy. Romance is almost always a key element, but I personally love a good sweet slow-burn romance, and I mean slow-burn… Found family, queer characters, and powerful women will almost always end up in my works.

I’m currently halfway through a joint degree in English Literature and Creative Writing and I am absolutely loving it. If you’re considering whether its worth it to take Creative Writing at university, I really recommend it, so long as where you go has modules that interest you, as I have seen such an incredible improvement in my writing. You can really hone your craft and explore genres and styles you might not have even thought to try before, and get so much invaluable feedback on your writing.

I was born in England on Christmas Eve, 2004. I still can’t believe I’m 20 now. Growing up, I almost constantly read, losing myself in world after world. Can you tell I was a Percy Jackson kid? Ever since the day I found out that people wrote books for a living, I knew that I would write too. And now, I’m a published author with one book, Eyes of Time, out there and another coming in April!

I think I was about ten or eleven when I came up with the first ideas that would eventually form Eyes of Time, my debut novel. Ever since then, those delightful characters have lived in my mind, and the story has taken a life of its own. I spent eight years writing that book through my teenage years, and published it on the fourth of April in 2024. For some strange reason, I quite like the number four, so publishing my first novel on 04/04/24 just made perfect sense to me.
